Description How to Grow More Info Delivery
Hosta undulata var. undulata bears its funnel shaped, lavender blue flowers on tall spikes above neat clumps of foliage. The oval, bright green leaves have attractive creamy white centres a curious twisted growth habit that gives them a fascinating appearance. This RHS AGM variety makes a fabulous addition to borders, woodland gardens and patio containers, producing the best colour in a shady position. Supplied as bare roots. Height and spread: 45cm (18").

Culinary information: The best part to use is the hoston, the rolled up leaf as it emerges in the spring. Cooking depends on the size of the hostons, small ones can be fried for a few minutes, going well in stir fries. Thicker ones are better boiled and used as a vegetable. 1 Bare Root Plant (V49160)

On delivery of your bareroot Hostas please plant them at the earliest opportunity. Should soil conditions prevent planting directly into borders (if soil is frozen or waterlogged); bareroots should be potted up, watered sparingly and grown on in a cool position. Choose a position in dappled or full shade on well drained soil and work some compost or general fertiliser into the top 20cm of the soil. Dig a hole wide enough to accommodate the bareroot with its roots spread out and deep enough that the crown of the plant is just a few cm below soil level. Backfill the hole with soil and firm the plant in gently. Leave a slight depression around the plant - this will help to direct water towards the roots. Water well to settle the soil.
In autumn, remove old foliage and apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Lift and divide Hosta plants in autumn every third year to maintain their vigour.
