Description How to Grow More Info Delivery

This stunning introduction is the darkest flowered hydrangea we’ve ever seen! Hydrangea ‘Burning Hot’ bears full, round heads of incredibly deep, wine-red blooms. Each petal is large and intensely saturated with colour, making ‘Burning Hot’ very distinctive from other dark varieties. In autumn the foliage takes on red tints, associating beautifully with the flower heads.

Mophead hydrangeas flower for many weeks over the summer and their skeletal flowerheads offer additional interest in winter. ‘Burning Hot’ also adds a unique colour to indoor arrangements, and is exceptionally long-lasting in a vase. With a compact habit, this deciduous shrub is perfect for lightly shaded borders and makes an elegant patio plant. Pair it with white flowers for a dramatic contrast. Height and spread: 1m (39in).

1 x 2 Litre Potted Plant (KC0922)

Hydrangea macrophylla prefers a sunny or semi shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any rich fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Alternatively plant hydrangea macrophylla in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.

Water regularly until plants are fully established. Leave the faded hydrangea flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage. In early spring, dead head the old flowers, cutting them back to a pair of healthy buds just below.

In late winter or early spring remove one or two of the oldest stems to the base. This will encourage the development of new, replacement shoots and keep the shrub productive.

After pruning hydrangeas, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant. Caution: Contact with hydrangea foliage may irritate the skin and eyes and all parts are harmful if eaten.
