Indoor-grown hydrangeas should be placed in a cool room away from draughts and heat sources. They prefer a bright position with plenty of natural light but not in direct sunlight. Water regularly to keep the compost moist but not soggy, using distilled water or rainwater if possible. Watering can be reduced after blooming but don’t allow the compost to dry out completely. Hydrangeas enjoy high humidity so mist frequently. During blooming, feed weekly with a weak liquid feed; when not blooming feed monthly. To keep your plant in best health, allow it a period of dormancy during autumn and winter, moving it somewhere cool – or even a frost-free spot outdoors such as a greenhouse or sheltered porch – until spring, and water lightly during this period. This will encourage buds to form for the next season.
