Bring some elegance to your patio pots with these showy, dwarf Hydrangeas. Large mop head flowers are borne at the stem tips throughout summer, above the attractive, dark green foliage. Like many Hydrangeas, this striking variety produces different colour tones depending on the soil pH, so be sure to plant blue-flowered plants in acid soil to retain their colour.

Hydrangea macrophylla 'Bela Collection' are naturally slow growing with a compact habit. They flower on old wood produced in the previous year, so only minimal pruning is required. These magnificent deciduous shrubs have a long season of interest that extends into autumn when the foliage turns to orange and gold. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 100cm (39").

Feed and water container grown plants regularly. As plants increase in size they will require repotting into increasingly larger pots. In autumn, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of border grown plants. Leave faded hydrangea flower heads in place until new buds swell the following spring. These will help protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune stems in spring, removing any rubbing, damaged or diseased stems and reducing stems to maintain a permanent woody framework.
Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten. When growing hydrangeas, choose a sunny or semi shaded spot that is sheltered from cold winter winds. Plant in borders in rich moist, well drained soil. Add plenty of well rotted manure to improve heavy clay or light sandy soils. Alternatively plant hydrangea in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
