- Sow outdoors March/April. Prepare seed bed by raking to a fine tilth, sow thinly, 1cm (1/2in) deep, in drills 23cm (9in) apart. Water the ground regularly, especially during dry periods.
- Transplant seedlings when they are large enough to handle, into their final position, 23cm (9in) apart. Continue to water regularly and earth-up the soil around the stems as they develop.
- Harvest from September to mid-January.
