- Sow outdoors March/April. Prepare seed bed by raking to a fine tilth, sow 1cm (1/2in) deep, in drills 30cm (12in) apart. Water the ground regularly, especially during dry periods.
- For ‘baby leeks’ sow liberally in drills 1cm (1/2in) deep and pull as for spring onions.
- Transplant seedlings when they are large enough to handle, to 23cm (9in) apart. Continue to water regularly and earth-up the soil around the stems as they develop.
- Harvest from late-August to December.
