Perfect for hedging or screening in tight spaces, Ligustrum vulgare ‘Straight Talk’ has a strongly erect, narrow, columnar habit. Evergreen to semi-evergreen, (in very cold winters), Ligustrum vulgare ‘Straight Talk’ sports lustrous, bright green foliage and is perfect for hedging or as a vertical accent in the garden landscape. Cold hardy, growing in sun or shade, pollution tolerant, drought tolerant and coping with a wide range of soils, this vigorous, fast-growing shrub will quickly provide dense screening and tolerates regular clipping. Fragrant white flowers are produced in July and August followed by shiny black berries that are appreciated by the birds, although regular trimming will inhibit flowering and fruiting. Maximum height: 3.6m (12ft). Spread: 60cm (2ft).

Grow Privet in any well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. Plants will tolerate a wide range of soils, from sand to chalk and clay, and areas of pollution. Keep well watered during the first two years whilst the tree is becoming established and maintain a 1m diameter circle around the tree free of grass and weeds.

Trim in May and again in August. After pruning, mulch plants in borders with 5cm (2”) of well-rotted compost or manure around the base of the plants and apply a slow-release fertiliser as per the manufacturer's instructions. Caution: harmful if eaten.
