Description How to Grow More Info Delivery
As the name suggests, this is a tall, branching variety, making a large specimen shrub or multi-stemmed tree over time. Large pink buds are borne in spring, opening to reveal delicate white petals inside. The flowers are particularly large, often nodding over slightly due to their size, and boasting a lovely fragrance. The blooms are followed by plenty of seed heads that extend the season of interest well into late summer. Magnolia ‘Big Dude’ is a fast growing, deciduous Magnolia that is often noted for its excellent hardiness. Height: 8m (27'). Spread: 5m (16').

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

1 x 5 Litre Potted Plant (KA9889)

Plant magnolias in a sunny or semi shaded position with protection from cold winds and hard spring frosts. Magnolias prefer a rich, moist, well drained, acid to neutral soil. Incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to improve the soil prior to planting, mixing it thoroughly and deeply. Magnolia plants establish quicker when their roots are shaded. Following planting, apply a mulch of rotted bark chips, manure or garden compost, taking care not to mound it around the stem of the plant.
Water regularly throughout the growing season until young magnolias are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted bark chips or garden compost to the base of the plant. Magnolias require little pruning other than to maintain their shape and remove damaged stems or crossing stems.
