Exotic-looking, yellow trumpet-shaped flowers with red markings make a wonderful addition to the summer garden. Also known as Monkey Flower, Mimulus x cultorum 'Major Bees' is a bushy, perennial plant preferring a moist soil, and is perfectly happy growing beside ponds or in damp shady corners of the garden. Mimulus can also be grown in shaded patio containers for a welcome spash of colour. Height and spread: 50cm (20").

Culinary information: The leaves of the monkeyflower can be eaten raw or cooked. They have a slightly bitter flavour and are mostly added to salads as the leaves can also be used as a lettuce substitute. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Grow Mimulus in fertile, well drained soil that remains reliably moist throughout summer. Choose a position in dappled shade, or a sunny spot with some protection from direct sun during the hottest part of the day.
Water mimulus plants regularly to ensure that the soil does not dry out. Deadhead faded mimulus flowers throughout the summer to encourage more blooms to be produced.
