Description How to Grow More Info Delivery Reviews

There’s nothing more stately than a mature Mulberry tree! These large, spreading trees will reach a grand size eventually, but their slow growth habit means that this takes many years.

Mulberry ‘King White’ produces enormous green fruits that turn almost translucent when fully ripe. This is when they are at their sweetest, with a rich flavour of honey. Each slender fruit reaches up to 10cm (4”) long. Unlike the usual black varieties, White Mulberries won’t stain your hands, making harvesting far less messy. This majestic tree is best grown in a large garden where it will have plenty of space. Height: 10m (32'). Spread: 12m (39').

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Height Up to 1000cm (393in)

Grow mulberry trees in moist, slightly acid soil in a sheltered position in full sun. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil, and drive a stake into the planting hole to support the tree once it is planted. Plant mulberries at the same soil level as they were growing at the nursery, and use a tree tie to fasten the tree to the stake.

Fruit and nut trees do not suffer weed competition well, so keep weeds and grass clear from within a 30cm radius of base of the tree. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the tree. This will help to retain moisture throughout the summer. Mulberries can be slow to break bud in the spring so frost damage to flowers rarely occurs. Water mulberry trees well during particularly dry periods.

Mulberries should be allowed to develop naturally, removing only the occasional misplaced or damaged stem. Unwanted laterals on the main stem can be shortened in the first year and removed in the second year to leave a clear stem. Prune mulberries only while dormant in winter to prevent excessive bleeding of sap.

Van Meuwen strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.
