A totally unique Pansy! Spectacular flowers in an unusual colour combination, which are reminiscent of a tropical butterfly with electric blue wings and a hint of bronze going through to a golden splash in the center of each bloom. Sure to create an eye-catching display in spring or summer flowering borders or containers. A Hardy Perennial often used as a Half Hardy Annual. Height: 15-20cm (6-8in).

Culinary note: Some parts of these flowers are edible. The crystallised petals are great decorations for cakes and cookies, or they can be added straight to green salads for an injection of colour. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Sow February to March or June to September. Sow seeds on the surface of a good, free-draining, damp seed compost, then apply a fine sprinkling of vermiculite, just covering the seed. Place container in a propagator or seal inside a polythene bag and place at a warm temperature of 15-20C (60-68F) until after germination which usually takes 10-15 days. Take care not to provide too high a temperature, as this can prevent germination.

Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 7.5cm (3in) pots. Gradually acclimatise plants to cooler conditions for a few weeks before planting out 15cm (6in) apart. September sown plants should be overwintered in a coldframe, and planted out the following spring.
