Add the 'wow' factor to your late spring borders with this stunning peony! Peony 'Cora Louise' boasts ruffled white blooms that are flushed with lavender at the centre. The big showy blooms look magnificent in flower arrangements; exotic-looking and gently fragranced, they're really breathtaking in a vase in the home – if you can bear to cut them from the garden! This hardy perennial is one of a group called Itoh Peonies; these combine the exotic looks of tree peonies with the growth habit of herbaceous peonies – meaning that you get the best of both worlds. Peony 'Cora Louise' is a really lovely addition to cottage garden planting schemes. Height: 75cm (29in). Spread: 90cm (36in). Supplied as bare root plants.

Caution: All parts of Peonies are harmful if eaten. Grow peonies in sun or semi shade, in well drained soil. Peonies prefer a rich fertile soil, so add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Plant herbaceous peonies at a depth of around 5cm (2”) below the soil surface. Planting too deeply may delay flowering.

These plants are lifted from the nursery field when dormant, and sent to you in late autumn or spring for planting. They often look dead on arrival, but they are just resting in the dormant period and will establish quickly for a strong start in the garden come spring. Set out in prepared soil in holes wide enough and deep enough to lay out the roots. Tread down the planting soil to knock out air pockets. Water well to settle. Apply a mulch to protect roots from cold temperatures. If conditions prevent immediate planting, set roughly into loose soil or a pot of compost (‘heeling in’) to protect the roots. The growth points of most bare root perennials should be set about an inch below the soil surface. New growth will appear in spring.

Feed and water regularly until peony plants are fully established. Remove faded peony flowers and cut back old foliage in autumn. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant.
