Description How to Grow More Info Delivery Reviews
Physocarpus opulifolius 'Annys Gold', more commonly known as Ninebark, is a hardy, deciduous shrub that is popular for its lush, light-green foliage. The leaves are pale green, with golden yellow edges, and tiny white flowers bloom in spring. The flowers are followed by red fruits, which extends the season of interest. The bright foliage makes a fabulous display at the back of borders. As the maximum height it grows to is 150cm, it is easy to maintain, and is also suitable for smaller gardens if planted as a lone specimen. Height: 150cm (59"). Spread: 150cm (59").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

1 x 9cm potted physocarpus plant (KB1279)

Plant Physocarpus in a fertile, moist, well-drained soil in full sun or semi-shade. Physocarpus plants prefer an acid to neutral soil, but will tolerate more alkaline soils, although may they may become chlorotic in very chalky areas. Incorporate organic matter such as well-rotted manure or compost into the soil prior to planting.

Water regularly throughout the growing season until young Physocarpus plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant. After flowering, cut back the flowered shoots to a healthy pair of buds, unless seedheads are required for late season interest.

Physocarpus opulifolius tolerates fairly hard pruning and may be cut back by half every few years to maintain a smaller size. On mature plants cut back about one quarter to one fifth of the oldest shoots to their base, to promote strong new growth.
