Pot up Polyanthus plants and grow them on for transplanting at a later date. Grow plug plants in bright, frost-free conditions, watering sparingly until they are fully rooted in. When all risk of frost has passed, acclimatise polyanthus plants to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days, prior to planting out in their final positions.
Polyanthus make colourful bedding plants, or grow them in containers and borders or in any fertile, moist, well drained soil. Choose a position in full sun or semi shade. During the winter, avoid over watering which may cause the plant to rot in cold conditions. Deadhead faded polyanthus flower stems throughout the flowering period to encourage more blooms to be produced.
