Who could resist the colour changing blooms of Primrose 'Sweet 16'? The blooms open white and gradually colour to rosy pink with a white picotee edge, before finally fading to a delicate pink blush. This large flowered Primrose brings a bright splash of spring colour to beds and containers, and makes a lovely edging to pathways too. This vigorous, hardy perennial forms evergreen clumps of foliage which create useful ground cover when planted en masse. Height and spread: 20cm (8").

Culinary note: Some parts of these flowers are edible. Try the sweet tasting petals on top of salads or even pancakes, crystallise them for use as cake decorations too. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Pot up primula plants and grow them on in bright, frost-free conditions, watering sparingly until they are fully rooted in. When they are well grown, acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days, prior to planting out in their final positions in borders and containers. Choose a semi-shaded position on rich, fertile, moist, well drained soil. Candelabra primula will also thrive in a peaty, acid soil and can also tolerate a position in full sun if the soil remains reliably moist.

Water regularly during hot, dry periods to prevent the soil from drying out. Deadhead faded primula flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. Divide over-crowded clumps between late autumn and early spring.

Seeds and garden supplies will normally be delivered within the time period stated against each product as detailed above. Plants, bulbs, corms, tubers, shrubs, trees, potatoes, etc. are delivered at the appropriate time for planting or potting on.
