Pot up Ratibida plants and grow them on in frost free conditions until they are large enough to plant outdoors. Gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before planning in their final positions. Plant Mexican Hat plants in a sunny position on fertile, well drained, non acidic soil.
When growing Ratibida plants, water regularly during particularly hot dry periods and until the plants are fully established. Once established, Ratibida is drought tolerant. Cut back the old stems and foliage of Mexican Hat plants in autumn.
