Even the most novice gardener recognises the Red Hot Poker. This striking perennial is often found in mixed herbaceous borders. Otherwise known as the Kniphofia ‘Fire Dance', the Red Hot Poker is a real favourite, as it's a true ‘cold hardy perennial'. In summer, the fiery yellow and crimson blooms soar above the thick evergreen foliage. Little known benefits of the Red Hot Poker include its resistance to rabbits and the fact that is adored by butterflies and bees. Height: 50cm (20") Spread: 60cm (24").

Knifophia prefers a sunny or semi shaded position in fertile, moist, well drained soil. Work some well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil prior to planting.
Water regularly until established. Cut back faded Kniphofia flower heads in autumn and apply a mulch of well rotted manure to the base of the plant. Lift and divide clumps of Red Hot Pokers in spring every third year to maintain their vigour.
