Squash Tromboncino is a delicious member of the butternut squash variety but is seedless. They can be eaten when smaller like a courgette or you can wait until they are larger and riper like a winter storing squash. It has excellent disease resistance, particularly mildew. It is an Italian cultivar with a slight artichoke flavour and a long neck with no seeds. Harvest from July through to September and they are perfect for grilling, frying, roasting and eating raw. Height 60cm (24”) and spread 1.8m (70”).

Water well and make sure it does not become too dry. It will need a framework to grow and spread as it can reach 1.8m (70”). As it reaches this size pinch out the triffid-like growth tips.

Water squash regularly – do not allow the soil to dry out as this will impair their development. Hoe between plants regularly to prevent weeds from establishing. Squash appreciate an application of a high potash fertiliser every two weeks during the growing season. Harvest squash in late summer and autumn, before the first frosts, when the skin has hardened and the fruits start to crack near to the stem. Harvest squash by cutting each fruit from the stem leaving several inches of the stem attached.
