With its lovely gold and green variegated leaves, this lemon-scented thyme is a superb specimen for the ornamental garden as well as an excellent culinary herb which combines the familiar thyme flavour with a citrusy tang. Plant Thyme 'Golden Queen' in terracotta patio pots, raised beds, rockeries or along border edges where it will form cushiony mounds of attractive foliage which produce masses of pink, pollinator-friendly flowers in summer. It makes a worthy addition to Mediterranean or coastal gardens where it will thrive in poor, dry soils. Height and spread: 30cm (12in).

Plant thyme outdoors within easy reach of the kitchen. Choose a position in neutral to alkaline, well drained soil, in full sun.

Feed and water herb plants regularly until they are fully established. Once established, thyme is reasonably drought tolerant and requires little attention. After flowering, cut back thyme plants to maintain compact bushy growth.
