The perfect way to grow potatoes in even the smallest of spaces! This special Potato 'Patio Collection' is ideal for growing potatoes on your patio, balcony or by your back door. All you need to get started is 120 litres of multipurpose compost and a little watering, and in 10-12 weeks your first potatoes will be ready to harvest. Plant height and spread: 60cm (24").

Plant first early potato crops from the end of February, and second earlies and maincrops during March. Prior to planting, set the seed potatoes out in a cool, bright position (10°C) to allow them to sprout. This process is called 'chitting'.

Fill the potato bags by one third with good quality compost mixed with plenty of well rotted manure. Space 3 seed potatoes in each bag on top of the compost and then cover them with more compost and manure until the bags are two thirds full. Place the bags in a sunny position and keep the compost moist until shoots appear through the soil surface. When shoots reach approximately 10cm (4"), cover them with more compost and manure until the bags are full.

Keep potato plants well watered throughout the growing season. Harvest first early potatoes 10 weeks from planting, second early potatoes 13 weeks from planting, and maincrop potatoes about 20 weeks from planting, when the foliage begins to turn yellow and die back. After harvesting, store potatoes in a cool, dark frost-free position until you are ready to use them.
