An exciting new foxglove, with parentage from the little known Isoplexis (Canary Island Foxglove) giving this variety its attractive tropical colouring. The densely packed flower spikes are sterile and won’t set seed, so the plants will bloom from June right through until November! A well-branched habit allows for a continuous show of flowers. Foxglove 'Illumination Pink' is ideal for cottage or woodland gardens, where it will thrive in sun or part shade. Unlike many other foxgloves this half-hardy variety is a true perennial so you will be able to enjoy the flowers for many years to come with a little winter protection. Height: 90cm (35"). Spread: 45cm (18"). Supplied as plug plants.
Caution: Irritant to skin and eyes. Toxic if eaten. Pot up foxglove plants and grow them on in warm conditions until large enough to plant in their final positions outdoors. When Digitalis plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a 7 to 10 day period. If plants are received in the autumn, grow the plants on and over-winter them in a cool, bright, frost-free place until the following spring. Plant Foxgloves out in sun or dappled shade on any fertile, well drained soil. Digitalis will grow well in most soils except for waterlogged or particularly dry conditions. Alternatively grow Foxglove 'Illumination Pink' in containers of loam-based compost such as John Innes No.3.
Water foxglove plants regularly until fully established. In autumn, cut back old stems to encourage plenty of new side shoots. Foxglove 'Illumination Pink' requires a minimum temperature of 0°C (32°F). In winter, move container grown plants to a cool, bright but frost-free position and water sparingly. Border grown plants can be lifted and potted up for over-wintering.
