Ground cover plants are perfect for a variety of garden areas, from covering steep banks to livening up bare patches of soil beneath trees and shrubs. They help suppress weed growth and are generally low maintenance plants. Ground covering plants are ideal when time is limited in the garden.

Hosta 'White Feather'

Plantain Lily

A very unusual variety! Emerging leaves appear almost totally white, slowly developing green streaks until the whole leaf turns green. Spikes of lavender flowers tower over the lush foliage from mid summer. Unlike other varieties, White Feather tolerates a sunny position making an attractive border or container plant. Also excellent as ground cover in woodland gardens or on the outskirts of ponds and boggy areas. Height and spread: 45cm (18"). Supplied as size one bareroot plants. More info

Brunnera 'Sea Heart' (Large Plant)

A striking hardy perennial with intricately patterned silver leaves and prominent green veining. Delicate sprays of two-toned pink and blue forget-me-not like flowers compliment the foliage in mid to late spring. Brunnera 'Sea Heart' has much thicker leaves than other Brunneras and will tolerate more sun, although is just as happy in a shady position. Siberian Bugloss is perfect for woodland gardens or the front of borders where it will slowly spread to form a dense, colourful ground cover. Height: 30cm (12"). Spread: 60cm (24"). Ajuga reptans 'Black Scallop' (Large Plant)

Ajuga reptans 'Binblasca', Bugle

Ajuga reptans 'Black Scallop' is an excellent groundcover plant that will cope in virtually any soil conditions. From late spring, this striking variety of Bugle produces violet blue flower spikes against a thick mat of shimmering, liquorice black foliage, which becomes darker when grown in full sun. This perennial plant is more sun tolerant than many other varieties. Attract pollinating insects to your wildlife garden by growing Ajuga reptans 'Black Scallop' as ground cover, or alternatively use at the front of borders or creeping through rockeries. Brunnera macrophylla 'Silver Heart' is a hardy yet decorative ground-cover plant, the eye-catching foliage with a beautiful moonlight shimmer and delicate sprays of bright blue flowers in late spring, will bring some colour to your garden’s early border displays. Ideal for a dull, shady area, this choice variety of Siberian Bugloss is also useful for a sunny position; the silvery, heart shaped leaves are thicker than many other cultivars, making it less prone to scorch and it will form into dense clumps. Height: 30cm (12"). Spread: 60cm (24").
