Description How to Grow More Info Delivery
Impressive, yellow throated, tubular flowers adorn this delightful half hardy Cape Fuchsia over a long period from summer into autumn. In mild parts of the UK it may be grown as a semi-evergreen shrub if winter protection is provided. However in most parts, where cold frosts cut back the tender stems in winter, it is best grown as a perennial. Phygelius x. rectus Devil's Tears makes a graceful addition to herbaceous borders and patio containers. Height: 75cm (30"). Spread: 90cm (36"). Supplied as 30mm plugs.

15 Plug Plants (73873)
1 x 10 Litre Potted Plant (73872)

Pot up plugs into 11cm pots and grow on in warm conditions. Pinch out the growing points where stems have more than 2 sets of leaves, while the plants are still small. This will encourage the plants to produce more stems, making a bushier plant with more flowers. When all risk of frost has passed and phygelius plants are well grown, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a 7 to 10 day period. Grow Cape Fuchsias in sheltered, sunny borders in fertile, moist, well drained soil.
Feed and water regularly until plants are fully established. Phygelius plants grown in the border will benefit from winter protection such as an autumn mulch of chipped bark or leaf mould. Container-grown plants can be moved to a frost free position over winter. Cut back old stems at the base of the plant in spring to promote the development of new growth. In very mild areas where the stems are not damaged by cold winters, Phygelius may be grown as a semi-evergreen shrub, requiring only light pruning of the stems in spring to improve the shape of the plant.
