Primula vialii

Hardy Perennial

 Customer Review Rating
Stately crimson-budded spikes of bloom open to lilac, giving the flowers a magical two toned effect. Ideal for damp, shady spots and simply stunning in large groups around bog gardens and woodlands. Their stout erect stems also make superb cut flowers for a pretty posy indoors. Ideal companion for Primula candelabra. Height: 60cm (24"). Supplied as 30mm plugs.

Pot up plugs into 9cm pots and grow them on in cool, lightly shaded conditions. When primula plants are well grown, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days prior to planting them in their final positions. Plant primula in containers and borders in fertile, reliably moist soil. Primula vialii prefers a shaded position but will cope in full sun if soil is constantly moist.
Feed and water plants regularly. Do not let soil dry out completely.Deadhead faded primula flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. In autumn, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of border grown plants.

  1. Primula vialii - Truly spectacular

    By Susan Lammiman 11-05-2015

This plant is amazing I bought 5 from you two years ago and they have thrived. I initially grew them in small pots but later transferred them to a larger planter. Because they are from the Primula family you expect them to be in leaf and flower at the same time as the others in the garden but these only start to emerge in May. Well worth the wait. Although the picture shoes the colours of red and pink, in reality the bottom flowers are more mauve which makes a lovely contrast. PS they multiply.

These plugs arrived well packaged and in good condition in June. They very quickly established and have even managed to squeeze a few flowers out in July.
