Choose a sunny or semi shaded position that is protected from cold winds and hard spring frosts. Magnolias prefer a moist, well drained acid to neutral soil that is high in organic matter. If you don't have acid soil, incorporate plenty of ericaceous compost into your border prior to planting. Plant Magnolias at the same depth as they were previously planted. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil. Alternatively plant Magnolia standards in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season until young Magnolia plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant. Magnolia standards require little pruning other than to maintain their shape and remove damaged stems.
We will do our best to ship your plants or bulbs to you at the ideal time for planting as stated against each product. We recommend that you prepare your soil, planting beds or patio containers ahead of time so you are ready to plant out, or pot on, just as soon as your order arrives. You will find the name of the variety printed on the top line of the address label on your package. Please ensure that you open the packaging immediately and carefully read through the instruction leaflet provided. For greatest success, please pot on or plant out as soon as possible, following the cultural instructions enclosed with your order.
  1. Magnolia- 'lucky red'

    By julia rumsby 19-04-2016

I purchased 2 magnolias as bare root plants, and one is obviously happy as it has signs of flowers/leaves (not sure which yet) the 2nd one (with far more branches ) is only just showing signs of life on just one of the 4/5 branches. I hope the rest are just 'taking their time' to grow, but they look very dried out. I am more than happy with my purchase and hope it is a flower this year , but cannot believe it would flower so soon. Sale and delivery were absolutely faultless. Well done !

    By Malgorzata Perek-Dissmann 02-04-2016

I bought the plant in Feb (fast delivery) but the tree doesn't show any signes of life! Also, I have tried to contact the customer service twice about it answer! I feel that this was a complete waste of money, since no response or refund so far...Very disappointed with the plant and the customer service in this case!
