Choose a sunny or semi shaded position that is protected from cold winds and hard spring frosts. Magnolias prefer a moist, well drained acid to neutral soil that is high in organic matter. If you don't have acid soil, incorporate plenty of ericaceous compost into your border prior to planting. Plant Magnolias at the same depth as they were previously planted. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil. Alternatively plant Magnolia standards in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season until young Magnolia plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant. Magnolia standards require little pruning other than to maintain their shape and remove damaged stems.

Annoyed and disappointed

In February I ordered two pink magnolias, as shown on their full page newspaper advert, delivefy March/April. They arrived mid May. Due to 'high'demand, they sent me a pink and a white one 'as they have run out of pink and didn't want to disapoint me'. Rubbish! If I wanted a white magnolia I would have asked for it. I emailed and complained, but they are too busy to reply, but I get daily emaIls with special offers. So don't ask for anything specific cause you won't get it. Try elsewhere. Two weeks after my last email, I have emailed again and gues, no reply at all. DO NOT USE VAN MEUWEN!!!!

late delivery three different types of magnolia ( 2xsoulangean lucky red)
1x(stellata ) 1x(denudata).
these items where ordered in february & where delivered on 12th may in a poor
condition.also ordered where 4 lugs of riverside trixi series & 9 fragrant falls consisting of 5 apricot & 4 lemon fizz I received 6 apricot & 3 begonia inferno.
