Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Black Beauty' is an eye-catching deciduous grass that produces fluffy dark silvery-purple flower heads late in Summer. The slender green foliage makes fabulous ground cover when planted en masse. The bottlebrush flowers will sway gently bringing texture and movement to borders, delivering superb late summer interest. Plant Fountain Grass into garden borders in any fertile, light, well drained garden soil, in full sun.

Take care not to overwater as Pennisetum plants may rot in over-wet soils. Although plants are hardy, they will benefit from the added protection of a dry mulch of bark or straw to protect the crown of the plant over the winter. Once you have enjoyed the autumn and winter interest of this plant, you should cut back any dead foliage and faded flowers in the spring.
