Grasses
Ornamental grasses are great for breaking up areas of planting and they add textural interest too. These low-maintenance plants come in a whole variety of foliage colours and many have showy seed heads too which persist throughout the autumn and winter, adding an architectural element to borders. Our great value grass plants make a wonderful addition to mixed borders, prairie-style planting, or grown as stylish solo specimens in a patio container.

Pennisetum alopecuroides(Fountain grass, Pennisetum compressum) Feathery panicles float above a dense clump of linear, evergreen leaves to form a cloud of ornamental seedheads. An undemanding grass that looks particularly effective in mixed borders. The fluffy seedheads can also be cut to make attractive dried flower displays. Height: 120cm (47"). Spread: 100cm (39"). Miscanthus sinensis 'Silberspinne'(Maiden Grass, Eulalia) A big impact in summer borders for very little effort! From late summer, this low maintenance perennial grass produces spidery panicles of bronze tipped flower-spikes that slowly fade to silver as they mature. The tall flower stems rise magnificently above clumps of arching, green foliage. The stately flower spikes are most numerous following a long hot summer, and make a superb addition to cut flower arrangements. Miscanthus sinensis 'Silberspinne' is lower growing than many of the species, but equally impressive. Height: 120cm (47"). Spread: 50cm (20"). Supplied in 9cm pots. More info |
