Pennisetum alopecuroides (Fountain grass, Pennisetum compressum) Feathery panicles float above a dense clump of linear, evergreen leaves to form a cloud of ornamental seedheads. An undemanding grass that looks particularly effective in mixed borders. The fluffy seedheads can also be cut to make attractive dried flower displays. Height: 120cm (47"). Spread: 100cm (39"). Miscanthus sinensis 'Silberspinne' (Maiden Grass, Eulalia) A big impact in summer borders for very little effort! From late summer, this low maintenance perennial grass produces spidery panicles of bronze tipped flower-spikes that slowly fade to silver as they mature. The tall flower stems rise magnificently above clumps of arching, green foliage. The stately flower spikes are most numerous following a long hot summer, and make a superb addition to cut flower arrangements.
