Sow outdoors March/May where they are to flower. Prepare the ground by raking to a fine tilth before sowing.
Sow thinly, 12mm (1/2in) deep in drills 30cm (12in) apart. Germination usually takes around 3 weeks.
When large enough to handle, thin out seedlings to 30cm (12in) apart.
For earlier flowering sow indoors in late January/February, individually into 7.5cm (3in) pots, keep at 20-30°C (68-86F). When well grown acclimatise to outdoor conditions before planting out after all risk of frost.
