Description How to Grow More Info Delivery
Hazel is an attractive, bushy tree which produces a mass of yellow-green catkins in the early spring followed a heavy crop of cobnuts in from September. The broad leaves help to provide an effective screen from spring through until autumn whenb they will fall to uncover a dense stand of upright stems. Most Hazelnuts are self-fertile and therefore do not require a pollination companion. Hazels will begin to produce nuts three to four years after planting. Supplied as 60 - 90 cm bareroots (24 - 35") Height: 8m (26'). Spread: 8m (26'). Planting distance: 30cm (12"). (4 plants per metre for a single line hedge).

Prior to planting Hazelnut trees, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Cobnut trees at the same soil level as they were growing at the nursery, and water well to settle the soil.
Nut trees do not suffer weed competition well, so keep weeds and grass clear from the of base of the hedge. Water young plants during particularly dry periods until fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the hedge. This will help to retain moisture throughout the summer.
