A very popular small tree, Acer palmatum has a graceful habit with delicate layers of feathery maple leaves. As autumn approaches, the leaves take on glorious fiery shades for added interest as the garden winds down. The Japanese Maple is a slow-growing tree, making it perfect for low maintenance gardening and patio containers. Preferring some shade and shelter from strong winds, Acers grow well in woodland gardens and make lovely specimen trees. Height and spread: Up to 3m (9.84’).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Grow acer in any moist, fertile, well drained soil in sun or dapple shade, with shelter from strong winds which can scorch the finely cut leaves. Alternatively grow acers in large containers using a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3.
Water regularly throughout the growing season until acer trees are well established. Protect plants from strong winds. Acers require little pruning other than to maintain their shape. Lightly trim stems if necessary from late autumn to midwinter.
