One of the ‘Jack Frost’ series of super-hardy hybrid Japanese Acers, Acer x pseudosieboldianum ‘Artic Jade’ tolerates much colder temperatures than other Japanese Acers and is well-suited to harsh northerly gardens. A cross between Acer Pseudosieboldianum (False Siebolds Maple), from whom it inherits its resistance to extreme cold, and the Japanese Maple (Acer palmatum), from which it gains its elegant branch structure and foliage colour, it will cope with exposed UK gardens providing its roots enjoy good drainage.

The large, handsome, mid-green foliage is deeply-lobed and edged with fine serrations and delivers a stunning performance in the autumn when it takes on dazzling orange and red tones. Height: 6m (20.5ft). Spread: 4m (13ft).

Grow Acers in any moist, fertile, well drained soil in sun or dappled shade. This Acer is much hardier than other Japanese Acers and will cope with more exposed sites.

Water regularly throughout the growing season until acer trees are well established. Protect plants from strong winds. Acers require little pruning other than to maintain their shape. Lightly trim stems if necessary from late autumn to midwinter.
