A lovely dwarf variety, which unusually, bears double flowers. Agapanthus ‘Double Diamond’ is perfect for small gardens, running along the front of a border or planted in patio containers. It reaches only a foot high, so it won’t smother adjacent plants. Crisp white, double trumpet-shaped blooms are held on strong stems above evergreen, strap-like foliage. Flowering from July to September it brings valuable late-season colour whilst its strappy leaves provide useful foliage texture throughout the season. This reliable perennial is reassuringly drought tolerant, coping well in hot, sunny sites. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height: 30cm (12in) Spread: 50cm (20in).

Grow Agapanthus plants in rich fertile, well drained soil, in a sunny position. When growing Agapanthus in patio containers use a soil based compost, such as John Innes No.3 .

Feed and water African Lilies regularly throughout the growing season. Leave faded Agapanthus flower stems intact to enjoy their architectural seed heads during autumn. When the first frost blacken the seed heads, cut the stems back to ground level. Protect plants outdoors from severe winter weather by providing a dry mulch of bark chips or straw in late autumn. Container grown plants can be moved to a frost free position over winter. Divide agapanthus clumps in spring when they become over crowded.
