This large specimen tree is attractively open and airy. Amelanchier trees are deciduous and noted for their vivid colours, changing from copper red in spring to green in summer, and then beautiful orange and red tones by the autumn. It is popular for its magnificent white spring blossom, which appears almost pink alongside the young foliage. Snowy Mespilus as it is commonly known is shown off to best effect in a sunny border. Plant it in slightly acid soil for the best results. Height: up to 12m (39’). Spread: 4m (13’).

Grow Amelanchier in a moist, but well-drained soil in full sun or semi shade. Autumn colours will be at their best when grown in full sun. Snowy Mespilus requires a neutral to acidic soil.
Amelanchier are maintenance-free, and will only need pruning to keep them in good shape, or to remove any dead, diseased or dying growth.
