An extremely unusual and striking evergreen Azalea that is particularly good as a patio container specimen in a sunny, sheltered spot. Throughout May, Azalea ‘Pink Spider’ bears white flowers with narrow petals that have a bold pink stripe. The flowers pair beautifully with the evergreen foliage, which is similarly slender. This compact variety suits containers of ericaceous compost with some protection from the worst winter weather. Height and spread: 75cm (29in).

Grow Azaleas in moist, well drained, acid soil that has been enriched with plenty of well rotted organic matter. Azalea 'Pink Spider' is best grown in a container of ericaceous compost. Choose a position in semi or dappled shade with shelter from cold drying winds. Azalea 'Pink Spider' requires protection in very cold winters. Avoid allowing the root ball to become frozen. Rhododendrons and Azaleas are surface rooting so it is important to avoid planting them too deeply.

Water Rhododendron plants regularly throughout the growing season. Where possible, use rainwater as the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidity in the soil over time. Feed Rhododendrons in spring with a slow release fertiliser for acid-loving plants. Protect plants from cold winter winds. Border grown Rhododendrons will appreciate an autumn mulch to protect their shallow roots from winter cold. Take care not to mound the mulch too close to the stem as this may cause it to rot. If necessary, lightly prune Rhododendron plants in June to remove damaged shoots and restrict size.
