The result of 18 years of breeding, Azalea 'Starstyle Lilac' is a unique new variety with masses of distinctive star-shaped flowers in bright pinkish-purple, set against long, narrow, pointed leaves. This compact and versatile evergreen is perfect for bringing a splash of colour to pots, borders, conservatories or even inside the house, blooming profusely in spring and again in autumn. Azalea 'Starstyle Lilac' is low maintenance, fully hardy and makes a great gift. Height and spread: 50cm (20in).

If growing outside in a container or border, choose a sheltered spot in part shade or full sun. If growing indoors, choose a cool, well-ventilated spot with plenty of natural light but not in direct sunlight. Azaleas need a neutral or acidic soil that is rich in humus and is moist but well-drained – use an ericaceous compost for container growing.

Columbines hybridize readily. If seedlings are not wanted, deadhead faded aquilegia flowers to prevent them self seeding. Aquilegias dislike disturbance but overcrowded clumps may be lifted and divided in spring when necessary. Caution: Contact with aquilegia sap may irritate the skin. Harmful if eaten.
