Description How to Grow Delivery

The fabulous foliage of Begonia ‘Green Gecko’ makes an exuberant centrepiece for an indoor room or conservatory. This wonderful lounge lizard will love basking in a shady spot in your living room, the reptilian patterning of its foliage instantly creating an exotic, jungle vibe.

‘Green Gecko’ boasts large, jagged leaves with pink margins which spiral inwards towards dark maroon centres surrounded by silvery flecks. Sprays of pink flowers are produced intermittently. Height and spread: 20-30cm (8-12in).

Begonias are back! Once a feature of the Victorian parlour, designers have rediscovered these foliage beauties which are fast becoming modern style icons. Featuring elegantly shaped foliage in a myriad of colours and patterns they make beautiful, shade tolerant houseplants. They look fabulous with any style of decor and are surprisingly easy to grow. In summer, they can be grown outside as patio feature plants.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Place your Begonia in a bright spot that is not in direct sunlight – an east or west-facing windowsill is ideal. Water regularly but avoid overwatering or letting the plant sit in water. Aim the water directly onto the compost, avoiding splashing the leaves as much as possible. Feed fortnightly between May and September with a plant food that is high in potassium (for cane-types where abundant flowering is most important) or high in nitrogen (for rex-type or foliage varieties). Reduce watering in winter, allowing the surface of the compost to begin to dry out before watering again. In winter keep your begonias above a minimum temperature of 13°C. Plants can be brought outside in summer once night temperature reliably exceeds this.

Van Meuwen strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.
