This extremely dwarf evergreen shrub is ideal for small gardens, low evergreen hedges or patio containers; growing to a maximum height of 60cm (24")! Dainty yellow-orange flowers with a sweet fragrance are borne in spring on elegant, slightly arching branches, which are densely covered in small dark green leaves. Not only do the flowers of Berberis buxifolia 'Nana' provide a welcome splash of spring colour, they are also attractive to bees. The purple-blue, rounded berries which follow in the autumn provide further seasonal interest and are attractive to birds. Height and spread: 60cm (24").

Plant barberry shrubs in borders in any moist, well drained soil in full sun or semi shade. Grow berberis plants in a sunny position for the best fruits and flowers.

Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season while young berberis plants become established. Evergreen barberry bushes require only occasional pruning to tidy damaged or misplaced stems. This should be carried out after flowering. When pruning evergreen berberis plants, only trim or lightly cut back any shoots that spoil the symmetry of the shrub.
