Description How to Grow More Info Delivery
This hardy, deciduous shrub makes a superb colour contrast in mixed borders. Purple-pink foliage covers the upright red stems, producing a most attractive display in summer. The tiny yellow flowers of Berberis thunbergii 'Chocolate Summer' attract bees and other pollinating insects, making this a great choice for wildlife gardens. By late summer, it bears orange-red berries which extend the season of interest. An easy to grow shrub that needs very little maintenance, once established. For the best foliage colour, grow Barberry plants in a sunny spot. Height: 120cm (48”). Spread: 60cm (24”).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Plant Berberis in full sun or partial shade, on a reliably moist, well-drained soil. Barberry plants are extremely resilient and will grow on many different soil types, except waterlogged.
Berberis require little maintenance once established. Trim back the stems lightly after flowering, removing dead or damaged growth at the same time.
