Berberis thunbergii ‘Golden Ring’ is an award-winning shrub, renowned for its captivating foliage. Its leaves start off a rich purple hue and transition to a vibrant, fiery red in autumn, adorned with fine gold margins, offering a stunning colour contrast. Through March and April, ‘Golden Ring’ bears small yellow flowers that are loved by pollinators, followed closely by glossy, bright red berries that are attractive to birds. This bushy, spiny, small to medium shrub makes a colourful screening and security hedge or foundation shrub. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height and spread: 1m (39in).

Plant Berberis in full sun or partial shade, on a reliably moist, well-drained soil. Barberry plants are extremely resilient and will grow on many different soil types, except waterlogged.

Berberis require little maintenance once established. Trim back the stems lightly after flowering, removing dead or damaged growth at the same time.
