Buddleja davidii (Mixed) - Seeds

Pre-chilling the seed before sowing by mixing it with a little damp compost, sealing it in a polythene bag and placing it in the fridge (not freezer) for 4 weeks can often help hasten germination. Sow from late winter to early summer in John Innes Seed Compost just covering the seed with compost. Make sure that the compost is moist but not wet and seal in a polythene bag until after germination which usually takes 20-30 days at 21-24C (70-75F).

Transplant when large enough to handle into 8cm (3in) pots. Later plant out 2m (6ft) apart into any reasonable soil in full sun.

Feed and water container-grown plants regularly. Buddleja planted directly into borders will require only occasional attention. In spring, prune Buddleja plants back to a permanent low framework of 3 or 4 buds from the base of the plant. Deadhead faded buddleja flowers to prolong the flowering season.
