Description How to Grow More Info Delivery
A popular evergreen shrub, Buxus sempervirens is easy to grow and perfect for creating topiary, hedges and low border edges. The small, glossy green leaves are densely arranged and respond well to regular clipping for a neat finish. Grow this versatile shrub as a box hedge or prune it to create formal shapes, both for containers on the patio and borders. Box plants also cope well with tricky shady positions in the garden. Height and spread: Up to 3m (9') if left unpruned.

Box plants are easy to grow on any fertile, moist, well drained garden soil in sun or semi-shade. On dry soils, Box plants will prefer a position in part shade. Improve poor soils prior to planting by digging in plenty of well rotted manure. Alternatively, grow Buxus sempervirens in containers of soil based compost such as John Innes No.3
Feed and water Box plants regularly while they become established. Although relatively low maintenance, Buxus will need pruning each year in mid summer to maintain a well shaped plant. This is best carried out on an overcast day to avoid sun scorch.
