Description How to Grow More Info Delivery

Calamondin is a cross between a mandarin orange and kumquat producing small edible and ornamental fruits and deliciously orange-scented flowers.

Calamondin is one of the easiest citrus to grow, valued as much as for its looks as its culinary use. In Latin countries the fruits of this symmetrical, compact plant are known as ‘agri-dulce’ (Sweet and Sour). The small acidic oranges (about 2.5cm diameter) are seedless and resemble a tangerine, with a bitter flesh but sweet peel. These sour fruits are excellent for preserves, marinades, and baking.

The Calamondin is an ideal feature plant, bringing a touch of Mediterranean style to conservatories and patios. They make excellent, long-lasting, and fragrant gifts. When you give a Citrus tree as a present, you’re giving a decorative, scented, and productive plant! The delicate waxy, and highly scented flowers are beautifully offset by the lush, shiny green foliage.

1 x 3 Litre Potted Plant (KC5363)

Plant citrus trees in patio containers in a mix of ericaceous compost and neutral, soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Repot the plant at its original soil level and firm well into the new container. Water well and position in a frost free position in full sun.
Stand citrus trees outside from May to October. Water freely in summer and mist leaves daily to increase humidity and discourage pests. Feed with citrus plant fertiliser every 2 weeks. Move plants indoors from October to a bright, frost free position (4-12°C) away from cold draughts and radiators. Reduce watering in winter but do not let the plant dry out completely. Too much or too little water may cause the fruits to drop.
