Callicarpa bodinieri var. giraldii ‘Profusion’ is a wonderful shrub for year-round interest, culminating in a grand finale of violet-purple berries and rosy pink foliage in autumn. The purple-tinted spring foliage is followed by small pink flowers in mid-summer, which are highly attractive to bees and other pollinating insects. Exotic-looking yet hardy, this eye-catching deciduous shrub has a prestigious RHS AGM, and is perfect for borders and low-maintenance gardens. Try cutting a few berried stems of Beauty berry for an autumn arrangement indoors. Height: 3m (10’). Spread: 2.5 (8’).

Grow Callicarpa bodinieri in fertile, well drained soil in sun or light dappled shade. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil.
Water regularly throughout the growing season until young beauty berry plants are fully established. Prune Callicarpa in early spring if needed, lightly cutting back to a healthy pair of buds to achieve the desired shape. With mature shrubs, prune a quarter of the oldest stems to ground level to promote replacement growth. Callicarpa shrubs tolerate hard pruning well and can be cut back to a low framework if they are outgrowing their allotted space. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant in spring.
