If you are looking for something different to plant in your garden, Calycanthus x raulstonii 'Hartlage Wine' is a rare and attractive, multi-stemmed shrub with upright to arching branches, that has lush green, oval leaves and clematis-like flowers. They are a deep shade of burgundy red, touched with a hint of cream in the centre, with a light scent, This shrub flowers from late spring to early autumn, and is suitable for a medium or large sized garden. Height & Spread: 4m (13').

Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season while young plants become established. Once established, prune Calycanthus floridus in early spring as the buds begin to swell. Cut back all stems to a low permanent framework, 3 or 4 buds from the base of the plant. After pruning Carolina allspice, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant.
