Imagine the luxurious blooms of spring flowering Camellias in the height of summer! Now that dream has become a reality with Camellia '1001 Summer Nights' Jasmine. Bred in China by Mr. Gao Jiyin, who has worked with camellia for over 50 years, and his colleagues Mr. Zhao Qiangmin and Mr. Liu Xinkai. This breeding breakthrough offers sumptuous flowers from September to early February against a cloak of glossy, evergreen foliage. With a neat, compact habit, this shrub is well suited to a container on the patio, flourishing in sun or part-shade. Height and spread: 250cm (98").

Camellia plants require a moist, well drained, acid soil in a sheltered, shaded position. In areas where acid soil does not naturally occur, grow Camellia plants in patio containers using a mix of ericaceous compost and John Innes No. 3 and position in dappled shade.

Water regularly until plants are fully established. Where possible, use rainwater as the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidity in the soil over time. Feed Camellias occasionally with fertiliser for acid-loving plants. Protect plants from cold winter winds and strong early morning sunlight, as this may cause the buds to drop in early spring.

Camellias will appreciate an autumn mulch to protect their roots from winter cold. Camellias require little pruning other than to maintain their shape. Lightly trim stems and remove faded blooms immediately after flowering.
