Bright red flowers stand out brightly against the glossy evergreen foliage of Camellia 'Yuletide'. Aptly named, this hardy shrub is at its best over the Christmas period when its scarlet red blooms are produced in abundance. Each bloom features a large cluster of contrasting yellow stamens that make and eye-catching display. Flowering from November to January, this large evrgreen shrub makes a superb feature as an individual specimen or grown as part of a woodland garden. Height: 6m (19'). Spread: 2.5m (8').

Camellia plants require an acid soil. If you don't have acid soil, simply plant them in patio containers. When growing Camellia in patio containers, use a mix of ericaceous compost and a soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Repot the plant at its original soil level and firm well into the new container. Water well and position in dappled or semi shade with shelter from strong winds. Alternatively, if you are gardening on acid soil, plant Camellias directly into borders in a sheltered, shaded position in moist, well drained soil.
Water regularly throughout the growing season. Where possible, use rainwater as the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidity in the soil over time. Feed regularly with fertiliser for acid-loving plants. Protect plants from cold winter winds. Border grown Camellias will appreciate an autumn mulch - take care not to mound the mulch too close to the stem as this may cause it to rot. Camellias require little pruning other than to maintain their shape. Lightly trim stems and remove faded blooms immediately after flowering.
