Description How to Grow More Info Delivery Reviews
This low-growing evergreen shrub produces a profusion of fluffy, lilac-blue flowers in late spring and early summer, and holds a prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit. Native to coastal California, Ceanothus thyrsiflorus var. repens makes a brilliant addition to the front of borders or rock gardens, where it creates dense, drought-tolerant groundcover. Creeping Blueblossom also looks superb as a patio feature in a large container, where the stems will naturally cascade over the sides, and the abundance of pretty blue blooms will attract bees. Height: 1m (3’). Spread: 2.5m (8’).

Water regularly throughout the growing season until Ceanothus plants are well established. In areas with extreme winters, Ceanothus thyrsiflorus is best given some winter protection with horticultural fleece. Ceanothus plants require little attention, but benefit from a trim each year to keep them neat and tidy. After flowering, trim or lightly cut back shoots to a healthy pair of buds. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant in spring.
Plant Ceanothus in fertile, well drained soil in full sun, with shelter from strong, cold winds. Alternatively grow Ceanothus in patio containers filled with loam-based compost such as John Innes No.3.
