Flowering Months
Water regularly throughout the growing season until Ceanothus plants are well established. In areas with extreme winters, Ceanothus is best given some winter protection with horticultural fleece. Ceanothus plants require little attention, but benefit from a trim each year to keep them neat and tidy. After flowering, trim or lightly cut back shoots to a healthy pair of buds. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant in spring.
Plant Ceanothus in fertile, well drained soil in full sun, with shelter from strong, cold winds. Alternatively grow Ceanothus in patio containers filled with loam-based compost such as John Innes No.3.
