A dwarf Japanese conifer noted for its extreme hardiness and finely textured yellow foliage which, unlike similar varieties, is resistant to sun scorch. Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Sungold' forms a soft, spreading dome of very fine, thread-like foliage on weeping branches. The scaly leaves emerge golden-yellow in spring maturing to lime-green. Its lacy foliage and cushion-like form delivers all-year-round texture, shape and colour to rock gardens, containers and borders. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height 1m (3ft) x Spread 1.5m (4.5ft) in 10 years.

Grow Cypress trees in moist, well drained soil. Chamaecyparis prefers a neutral or acid soil but does tolerate chalky soils well. Choose a position in full sun.

Once established, Cypress trees require virtually no maintenance. When grown as a hedge, prune Chamaecyparis at any time between late spring and early autumn, taking care not to prune into older wood.
